Default start page Links Browser on Dreambox

It would be so nice... while watching the television, and just by pressing one button on the remote of the Dreambox to view the latest .jpg from my webcam. It wasn't that easy. To view a .jpg you have to start the file-explorer and point to the .jpg by using a few steps. I wanted that procedure easier... (forum thread, dutch)

For watching the webcam while I work at my computer, I set up a webwerver with a meta-refesh on the .jpg. So the easiest way to show the image on my Dreambox is to start the build in browser? But... the Links Web Browser has a default start page which points to www.dream-multimedia-tv.de. How to modify that?I found out that www.dream-multimedia-tv.de is hard-coded in the binairy of the plugin. Here are two brief descriptions to modify the startpage:

Solution 1:

Locate the plugin. It is on your box: /usr/lib/tuxbox/plugins/links.so (Make a copy for backup!)

Open it with a editor (i.e. HexEdit on a linux box) and locate dream-multimedia. (it is at 0x000F9738) Here you see the default start-page and you are able to modify. After repleacing the plugin, reboot the box to reload that plugin.

Solution 2:

If you don't want to modify the plugin (to be comatible with future updates) here's another solution. While the browser opens www.dream-multimedia-tv.de , you can modify your /etc/hosts file on your box to redirect. Just create a extra line in /etc/hosts:

192.168.1.80www.dream-multimedia-tv.de
